Install Osx86 Without Ahci Controller
BIOS have a setup screen that allows you to specify the configuration you prefer for the system. The bios screen can be accessed in many different ways depending on the computer.
I also have the Dell Inspiron 620 and i wanna install hackintosh on it so what should i do now will it work without AHCI. I have iAtkos L2 (Lion) installed on my hackintosh and working fine. I downloaded Niresh's Mavericks as he said this will work without AHCI in one of his posts. I can install it but then it gets stuck on the apple logo.
Some machines use 'del' button, when the computer loads, just press delete and the BIOS appears, some use F2 or F12 all depends on the type of bios installed on your machine ('American MegaTrends' or 'Award Software' or 'Phoenix Technologies' etc.), in the first screen you see when the PC powers up there should be a message saying how to enter setup/bios. During runtime the OS ask the CPU for information regarding different areas, each query is done using a hex value set to a CPU register, not all CPU supports all features this is why at boot time the OS check what are the supported features, each CPU gives different answers to a given value depending on the number of features it support, and in this way it determines what CPU it is running on, but older OS such as NT, 95, 98, Jaguar, Panther etc.
Don't know of the new feature that new CPU has, that is why this BIOS parameter exist, it tells the CPU to act as if it is limited in the number of features it support for the sake of older OS, in our case leopard support all the CPU query features (leafs), that is why we need to set this parameter to disable and to allow the CPU to return its true values and to be able to identify the CPU for its true type. Latest CPUs support internal thermal sensors and the CPU track the temperature, if it reaches a high or too low threshold counter measures are taken, such as: lowering voltage and speed of CPU (so less heat is generated) allowing CPU to cool down, sometimes when temperatures are critical the CPU is allowed to freeze all work or shutdown the computer as precaution measures (depending on the BIOS setup). This parameter can be set to enabled or disabled since today the hackintosh scene cannot support the thermal control from leopard (for all PCs), and as part of the installation you are asked to remove the kext (kernel extension) responsible for it, so you may enable it, i prefer to disable it and if everything is working well you can return and enable it back on to enabled value, if you don't have disabled (like me) Auto value will do just fine. Standard Sata Ahci Controller Driver Update
Hey Shay, Finally I made it (again). It seems like there was something wrong with the customizing options I chose. This time I went for the darwin bootloader, all the patches, all the drivers (except for the vga drivers) And it worked, although I'm sure I went for this configuration in the past and got bad results. I think all in all I went through this procedure more than 50 times in the last four days.but now 10.5.1 is stable and running, and I haven't got the guts to even think up updating it to 10.5.2. I appreciate all your help and concern, and will keep visiting your blog regularly.
Standard Sata Ahci Controller Download
Thanks a million! All the best, E.
Configuration of my laptop: I have oldy Asus F80s laptop, with 'not-so-low' specs. ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 HD ( working on Snow Leopard ) - Intel Core2Duo 2.0 ghz - Atheros AR5007EG ( working ) - 3 GB RAM - 250 GB HD You will need: - Another computer with Macintosh OR any file explorer ( too see hfs+ files ). I had one big problem - OS X installer won't see my HDD drive. But what i should to do when there's no AHCI mode in BIOS?
Let's solve it. Those kexts i was needed to make my OS X see Serial ATA harddrive (attached) - IOATAFamily.kext - AppleNForceATA.kext - AppleVIAATA.kext First method.
Write your OS X image to any flash drive. Then drop kexts to '/System/Library/Extensions' OR just use kext installer ( recommended ).
If you don't see 'System' folder on your Mac then just open Terminal and type: 'defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE' and then 'killall Finder' to restart Finder. But if you use another file explorer then just drop those kexts.
Try to install now. You will see your SATA Drive in device list. If first method WON'T work or install fails then try next ( harder procedure ).
Disconnect your SATA Harddrive. Get USBtoSATA controller.
( Uses in portative hdds ) 3. Write your OS X image to any flash drive. ( DO NOT DROP KEXTS THERE ) 4. Connect your HDD which is connected via USBtoSATA controller. Your installer will see your HD without any kexts. Install it on yours HDD which connected via usbtosata controller.
When install finishes, it can stuck at 'Still waiting for root device' or 'USBF' log. Shut down your computer. Disconnect USB HDD, connect it to any computer. IF YOU USE MACINTOSH - then show all hidden files, and drop kexts which i attached to 'System/Library/Extensions'. IF YOU USE ANOTHER FILE EXPLORER or OS - then just drop those files to same directory. Safe disconnect your USB HDD. Disconnect your HDD from USB2Sata controller.
Ahci Driver
Connect your HDD back to 'original place'. Try to launch it. OS X should start without any errors.
Tested on Mountain Lion ( 10.8.4 ) and Snow Leopard ( 10.6.6 - 10.6.8 )! 755.3KB 2053 downloads 50.1KB 1840 downloads 348.96KB 1966 downloads. Thank you so much, I've been at this for hours - It was so exciting to finally see the NTFS drives appear in disk utility My machine is an ASUS F83Se, SiS 671 chipset Radeon Mobility HD 4570 graphics, running 10.9 mavericks prepared by the myHack app. I had to tweak a few other things to get the usb installer to boot however, At first it would with ' still waiting for root device', this was fixed by passing USBBusFix=Yes alongside -v -f when starting up Second, bluetooth kexts caused the boot to hang, I just deleted all 3 bluetooth kexts to solve. Lastly, it seemed to stick at DSMOS has arrived, passing GraphicsEnabler=No solved this one.
