On this step CentOS offers a lot of Server and Desktop platform environments that you choose from, but, if you want a high degree of customization, especially if you are going to use CentOS 7 to run as a server platform, then I suggest you select Minimal Install with Compatibility Libraries as Add-ons, which will install a minimal basic system software and later you can add other packages as your needs require using yum groupinstall command. Summary of Partition Changes NOTE: For those users, who have hard-disks more than 2TB in size, the installer automatically will convert partition table to GPT, but if you wish to use GPT table on smaller disks than 2TB, then you should use the argument inst.gpt to the installer boot command line in order to change the default behaviour. The next step is to set your system hostname and enable networking.

I don’t get the expected screen when trying to install CENTOS 7 on a desktop. I created the bootable DVD, changed the boot sequence, installed the DVD, and the bios asked if I wanted to “Install CENTOS 7”, all of which I expected. After that I just get: 'Started Device-Mapper Multipath Device Controller' 'Starting Open-iSCSI.' 'Started Open-iSCSI.'

'Starting dracut initqueue hook.' 'Started Show Plymouth Boot Screen.'

'Reached target Paths.' 'Reached target Basic System.' After that the machine does nothing further.

Course Transcript - To install CentOS Linux from full DVD, we need to download an ISO image from the CentOS website. You'll do this by opening a web browser and browsing to the CentOS Linux download page at CentOS.org/download. When you get there, click on DVD ISO and choose a mirror.

And, click on save. This DVD ISO image can be burned to an optical disk, or we can create a USB thumb drive from it. To make a bootable CentOS seven USB thumb drive using Windows, we can use Win32 Disk Imager. While our CentOS ISO is downloading, let's browse to SourceForge.net/projects/win32diskimager. Once you're there, click on download and then wait for it to download. Once it's done, click on save. There are other tools on Windows that can burn an ISO image to a thumb drive, but Win32 Disk Imager works reliably, so I recommend it.

Another one that works well is RAWrite32. Now that we have Win32 Disk Imager downloaded, click on view downloads and then click on run. This should start the installer. Click on yes to run the installer, and then click on I accept the agreement and click next.

Click next again and click next again. I'm going to check the create a desktop shortcut box and then click on next. And, then click on install. Because I don't want to read the readme, I'm going to deselect the view readme.txt file, and we're going to leave launch Win32 Disk Imager checked, and then click on finish. This should start the program.

At this point, we'll probably want to check on our CentOS seven ISO download by clicking on the download dialog. Through the use of movie magic, I'm going to zip past the rest of the download. If your ISO isn't downloaded yet, just pause the video until it is. Go ahead and close the downloads window. Now that our ISO image is downloaded, and we have Win32 Disk Imager installed, let's insert a USB thumb drive and create the bootable disk. Now we'll want to choose our DVD image that we downloaded.

Click on the dropdown so we can select all files, and then click on CentOS seven, and click on open. Ensure that under device, it's your USB thumb drive that you just plugged in, and click on write, then click on yes. Once this process is done, we can remove the thumb drive and place it in the machine that we want to install CentOS seven on.
